Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) all weekend long with a new science festival at Chicago Botanic Garden, a flower and garden show in Andersonville, and a Party for the Planet at Brookfield Zoo. Plus, don’t miss a festival all about chocolate and wine or a new play in Glenview.
Opens April 19
Oil Lamp Theater will open this production by Delia and Nora Ephron (and based on the book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman) this week. “Love, Loss and What I Wore” is a collection of stories that “offer audiences a warm and sometimes bittersweet vision of the joys and tribulations of modern womanhood.” The production will run through June 3.
This brand new Chicago Botanic Garden event will feature a science poetry slam, drop-in programs, demonstrations, and more to celebrate science and nature.
More than 30 Andersonville businesses and organizations, including Candyality, KOVAL Distillery, Milk Handmade, and Women & Children First Bookstore, will celebrate spring (and Earth Day) during this event to showcase live plants and flowers, spring merchandise, and more.
More than 50 vendors will be on hand at this sweet expo for demos, tastings, and more. Plus, a portion of all ticket sales will be donated to Holiday Heroes, an organization that creates parties for hospitalized children. And don’t miss the Chicago Coffee & Tea Expo taking place at the same time.
This annual Brookfield Zoo event will return with an Eco Expo, tree planting, Zoo Chats, a recycling event, green activities, and more so families can learn what they can do to make a difference for our planet and animals. You can also visit the zoo on Saturday to celebrate World Penguin Day.
