The ALS Association Greater Chicago Chapter (GCC) hosts its 2nd annual IronHorse Ball fundraiser on Thursday, February 23rd to benefit the fight against ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and those living with the disease which has no known cause or cure, and no survivors.
The IronHorse Ball recognizes those whose efforts emulate the formidable IronHorse characteristics of Lou Gehrig. The evening combines a grand reception with tasting stations from 15 of Chicago’s top chefs, ten specialty open bar beverage stations, a night of dancing beneath the largest Tiffany Glass dome in the world, and the awards presentation. The black tie optional event also features IronHorse Awards. This year, Anne Saunders will receive The IronHorse Caregivers Award; Daniel Allen Trout receives the Courage Award; and Andrew Wasilewski is presented the IronHorse Award. Additionally, first-time awards will be presented including The Distinguished Spirit Award going to Heaven Hill Distillery, the umbrella company for Jim Beam (Parker Beam recently lost his battle against ALS). The Grid IronHorse Award, another first-time award is being presented to Steve Gleason, retired NFL New Orleans Saint whose battle with ALS is portrayed in the acclaimed 2016 documentary, Gleason.
All proceeds go toward serving the needs of those living with ALS through compassionate care, research initiatives, advocacy efforts and ALS programming. All service the ALS Association offers is provided free to those living with ALS or their families. The organization supports six multi-disciplinary clinics and just recently opened the first-ever suburban ALS clinic in Illinois in Evanston at NorthShore Hospital.
At the IronHorse Ball, guests gathered beneath the largest Tiffany glass dome in the world will enjoy live entertainment. This year a special VIP Experience is available in a private room overlooking Millennium Park, private entertainment, celebrity chef dining, meet-n-greets with NFL players, valuable gift bags and a special Jim Beam Tastings event.
