Architecture & Nature: Potting Prairie Planters

July 27 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Inspired by the broad, flat landscape of America’s Midwest, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie houses were designed to exist in harmony with nature. In designing his buildings, Wright used natural building materials, a color-palette inspired by the woods and fields, and dramatic abstract designs inspired by local plants. The architect also incorporated living plants into his designs. At Robie House, Wright’s Prairie style masterpiece, urns and planters at every level are filled with native plants, allowing the house to bloom with the seasons.

Learn about the ecosystem that inspired Wright’s masterpiece and use nature as your guide as you design, build, and pot your own Prairie planter. Using repurposed cardboard and paper tubes, participants will create their own seed-starter pots to take home and plant.
