Advent and Christmas

Connect with your faith, your family, and friends of all kinds during Advent and Christmas this year. The season of light provides opportunity to restore and refresh yourself and your loved ones. Traditional services and new programs at Kenilworth Union Church invite you to step inside and warm your soul.

A wide variety of worship services, opportunities to give back, and social programs are offered this season from Sunday Advent Worship all of December through the Blessing of the Animals on New Year’s Day.

Worship

For those who prefer a casual, meditative worship, the Quiet Christmas Service takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 with readings from current poets and authors, a chance to light a candle in memory and hope, and reflect on God’s promises made known in Jesus.

On Christmas Eve Day, attend a Family Nativity at 11 a.m. Traditional candlelight services are held on the same day, Saturday, Dec. 24, at four times to suit your schedule: 3, 6, 9, and 11 p.m.

Kenilworth Union Church is open on Christmas Day for a worship service at 10:30 a.m., when the congregation gathers once more in the decorated Sanctuary.

Four-legged friends and other well-behaved pets or stuffed animals are invited to a special service on Sunday, Jan. 1, for the Blessing of the Animals at 10:30 a.m. The worship service includes an opportunity for the pets to each receive an individual blessing.

Service

As you enter the church, be sure to pause at the Mitten Tree, placed inside the front door by the Children’s Ministry program. Donations of new hats, gloves, and scarves, are welcome to be hung on its branches through Christmas. New jackets are also welcome. All donated items are later presented to the Christopher House in Chicago.

Each year, the Holiday Gift Fund invites donations that are directed to one of the 40 benevolence agencies supported by the church through the Outreach program. This year, donations will be directed to Three Angels Children’s Relief in Haiti.
