The mission of the Crushers Club is to be the strongest alternative to gangs for young men in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. We arm young people with the support and skills they need to restore their lives and improve their neighborhood. Crushers Club is rooted in four ideals — respect, discipline, ownership, and love — that give our members a fighting chance. The Club uses the platforms of boxing and music to give young men an alternative to life on the streets.
On Jan. 30, 2018, Crushers Club Executive Director Sally Hazelgrove received the 2017 Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) from the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The award was presented by Jeffrey Sallet, the FBI’s Chicago office Special Agent in Charge, at a luncheon ceremony at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse. The award recognizes Sally’s vision, passion, and success in providing the youth of Englewood with programs and activities that give a young person purpose and hope. (Learn more.)
Sally will join the DCLA recipients selected by other FBI field offices across the nation at an awards ceremony to be held in Washington, D.C. this spring, where she will be personally recognized and honored by FBI Director Christopher Wray.
On Feb. 28, 2018, the Chicago-based Italian American Sports Hall of Fame will host its 9th Annual “Night at the Fights Amateur Boxing Tournament” with special guest Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini. Four Crushers Club boxers — Ivry Hall, Isiah Cook, Chris Norwood, and Jarvez Levy — will participate in the event. For more information on this event go to niashf.org/events.
We want to thank Make It Better and their readers for the recognition and support provided to the Crushers Club. For more information and to make a donation, please go to crushersclub.org.
