3 Organizations in Need of Your Time, Things or Support

Posted By Anna Carlson and Will Mendelson On August 31, 2017 @ 2:00 pm In GET INVOLVED,GIVE SUPPORT,GIVE THINGS,GIVE TIME,PHILANTHROPY | No Comments

Our hearts break for the countless victims suffering in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and we hope you’ll do your part to help them with much-needed donations [1].

If you’re looking for more ways to help others, here are some worthy organizations also in need of your time, things or money to support their causes: fighting Multiple Myeloma, supporting refugees, and connecting students with mentors.

Give Time

Volunteer to Support the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

The mission of the MMRF [2] is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure. The MMRF Team for Cures 5K Walk/Run Program [3] needs volunteers to support the 2,000 participants who are patients, family, friends, clinicians and healthcare workers in the greater Chicago area. The Chicago race [4] is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Montrose Harbor, Grove 16.

Give Things

Support Refugee Girls

donate things: GirlForward [5]

Girls in GirlForward programming with Director of Education Emily Kane at a Girl Jam fundraiser.

GirlForward [5] presents opportunities for refugee girls through three core programs: a mentoring program, Camp GirlForward and the Safe Spaces Project. GirlForward’s work is made possible by generous individuals who donate. Donations [6] allow GirlForward to continue providing mentorship and education to girls resettled in the U.S. as refugees. Your generous school supplies and city transit pass donations will go toward the classroom and educational workshops for the girls in these programs. You can also purchase an item from GirlForward’s Amazon Wish List [7].

Give Support

Donate to Help Students Succeed in High School

donate money: Spark [8]

On Discovery Day, students and mentors present their projects in a “science fair” style.

Spark [8] inspires 7th, 8th and 9th grade students to succeed in high school and beyond by connecting them with mentors in leading workplaces and supporting their academic journey with the High School Transitions program. By engaging working professionals and connecting businesses with local communities, Spark empowers the next generation to perform better in school, graduate on time, and lead fulfilling careers and lives. Spark will serve thousands of students this year. Your donation will help them support students as they discover what’s possible and develop the skills to achieve their goals. In Chicago, Spark will pair 375 students with mentors to work one-on-one and create a project based on the student’s interests and career aspirations. Donate online [9] or send and make checks payable to: Spark Program, 223 W. Jackson Blvd., Suite 520, Chicago, IL 60606.
