You know it will be a busy weekend in Chicago when it’s time for the Chicago Air and Water Show. In addition to fun events surrounding that annual summer favorite, don’t miss the opening of a new pop-up museum, an outdoor showing of “Black Panther,” a Rent the Runway sample sale, and a family-friendly nature festival.
Opens Aug. 17
Chicago’s newest art and science pop-up experience, the wndr museum (pronounced “wonder”), will feature the city’s first Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored Room, plus 10 more never-before-seen rooms by artists, designers, and technologists.
- UPDATE: From wndr museum’s Instagram account on Aug. 16: “Change of plans — Due to unexpected construction delays (full disclosure: a surprise leaky roof), we’ve pushed our opening date to next month. If you already bought tickets, you will hear from us today via email. If not, stay tuned for new ticket dates. Thanks for sticking with us. We’re excited to bring you wndr museum soon.”
The DuSable Museum of African American History will host a screening of this Marvel movie in the Outdoor Sunken Garden.
This year’s headliners are U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, and U.S. Navy Parachute Team Leap Frogs. Catch all the action from the Shore Club (beach-side brunch and open bar), The Patio at Café Brauer ($4 beers with any food purchase), Theater on the Lake (music, food, and drinks), The Signature Room (gourmet buffet and premium bar package), or Skydeck Chicago (a Picnic in the Sky).
Begins Aug. 18
Rent the Runway is hosting its first-ever Chicago sample sale, where you’ll find clothing, handbags, and accessories from designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Badgley Mischka, and ML Monique Lhuillier for up to 90 percent off the retail price. The sale runs through Aug. 25 at Water Tower Place.
Celebrate the great outdoors with the Lake County Nature Network. This free, family-friendly event will feature nature activities and crafts, live animals, a nature play area, a water wall, and more.
