With COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of many of Chicago’s biggest fundraising races, some of the most popular, like the YWCA Evanston/North Store Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate, have gone virtual. Runners who love having something to train for can still lace up those sneaks and pound the pavement for a good cause. Join us for the first ever Walt Disney Birthplace Virtual 5K run, which Better is honored to be the media sponsor of. Whether you are a big Disney fan or not (who isn’t?!), you’ll help spread awareness about the Walt Disney Birthplace, located in the Hermosa neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest, and you’ll get some fun “souvenirs” mailed right to your door.
Participants can enjoy a 5K on a course of their own choosing, and complete on their own time. The cost to participate is $40.
The Participant Package includes:
- Exclusively designed commemorative shirt
- Your Name on the Virtual 5K Finisher Wall and Walt Disney Birthplace newsletter shout-out
- Downloadable race bib with exclusive design
- Downloadable finisher certificate with exclusive design

All proceeds will directly benefit the Walt Disney Birthplace and its restoration project to turn the home into a museum. Once completed, the home will be opened to the public and will also be a center for early childhood creativity and innovation. The extraordinary significance of this home, where the Disney family lived from 1893 until 1906 when they moved to Marceline, Missouri, cannot be understated. Three of the five children were born here, and this was the place in which the Disneys spent the most time together as a family of seven. Learn more about the museum here.
